St. Louis Cardinals Injuries – What to Expect this Season

It’s going to be a long season for fans of the St. Louis Cardinals. It was already going to include the sideshow of whether Albert is going to resign or “take his talents” elsewhere. That alone would make if difficult for not only Pujols to focus on the daily grind, but everyone around having to answer questions about the situation.

Then comes the news that Adam Wainwright blows out his elbow, will need reconstructive surgery and is out for the year and possible all/some of next year. Hard to replace 19 wins a year and the 200+ innings that Adam eats up for you club.

So it’s already bad enough and then Chris Carpenter starts experiencing hamstring issues. And it’s barely March folks. Joshua Duffy has a nice piece with further details on what the Cardinals are facing over at Sports Central. Check it out over there with caution if you are a Cardinals fan, and with glee if you support any of the other NL Central teams.

The Ugliest Basketball Courts In America

Jake Donahue at The Donahue Media Group has created some spectacularly ugly basketball courts designs based off of the new Oregon court. For those of you that haven’t seen the new Oregon court, it’s like nothing you’ve ever seen. Now I appreciate the effort and boldness that went into the design and the green lighting of the court. But try watching a game on TV. It distracts from the game play, you can’t see the 3 point line and there multi-million dollar LED ribbon light reflects off the court as well. I’m surprised they haven’t induced any seizures yet with those strobing lights.

So Jake took it upon himself to come up with some other court designs based on the Oregon court. You can check them out on his site. The comments are pretty funny as well.

Duke Wins, as North Carolina Fails to Hold Lead

Duke pulled off a 79-73 victory over North Carolina at home Wednesday night after trailing by 14 at half time. You can check out the story from CBS Sports here.

Coach Calipari Delivers Verbal Beatdown on Terrence Jones

The folks at FanWagon couldn’t help but think of the line from the Incredible Hulk “Don’t make me angry. You wouldn’t like me when I’m angry.” last night watching the end of the Kentucky-Alabama basketball game. Coach Cal delivered an onslaught of obscenities directed at Freshman Terrence Jones. Almost to the point that it was uncomfortable to watch.

Evidently, Terrence Jones was not performing at the capacity that Coach Cal had been requesting of him. Regardless of the reasons or frustrations, this is not the public response I want to see from my coach. And I get tired of hearing coaches declare that they are not just coaches, but leaders of men – helping to shape and mold them into young men, only to see this type of behavior on the sideline from a coach. Judge for yourself with the video below. See how many F bombs you can lip read from Coach Cal.

Coach Cal did respond via Twitter to his actions during the game.

“First of all I want to apologize for my language at the end of the game. I got caught up in the emotion of the game, but that’s no excuse. Sometimes you don’t realize in the moment that what you’re saying is on national TV. The BBN deserves better and so do my players.”

What I find to be the most interesting part of his statement is that he apologized for his “language” but not the way he treated Terrence Jones.

Michigan Hires New Defensive Coordinator Greg Mattison

Michigan’s new coach Brady Hoke pulled off his biggest move in the short time he’s been the head of the Michigan football program by hiring Greg Mattison as the Michigan Defensive Coordinator. But it was the one position that required the most attention and could have the impact the program needs to return to greatness.

Greg Mattison is leaving the NFL and the Baltimore Ravens to take the same position at Michigan. This isn’t Mattison’s first time in Ann Arbor as he previously coached there as the Defensive Coordinator during the 1995 and 1996 seasons.

“Greg loves Michigan, loves recruiting and is excited about coming back to Ann Arbor and the University of Michigan,” Hoke said in a statement. “Greg is one of the top defensive coordinators in football, and his defensive units have always prided themselves on stopping the run. He will be a great asset to our program and an excellent addition to our staff.”

For a Michigan team that ranked 109^th out of 120 teams in total defense this is the boost the program needed. Not only does Mattison bring years of experiencing running defenses, but his experience coaching in the NFL should have a major impact on recruiting.

Auburn National Champions Apparel and Gear

Congratulations to the 2010 BCS National Champions Auburn Tigers. Auburn defeated the Oregon Ducks 22-19 with two dramatic plays at the end of the game. Michael Dyer’s 37 yard run, where it initially looked like he was down but wasn’t, set up the last second field goal by Wes Byrum to secure the victory.

This gives the state of Alabama the previous two National Championships. But now it is Auburn’s turn to shine. So all you Auburn fans – show your pride with Auburn National Champions apparel and gear:
